“Travel in youth is a part of education and, in old age, a part of experience.” - Francis Bacon
In Heidelberg!
My experience as an au pair Mädchen
I started studying German at the Goethe-Institut in Lima when I was still attending the 5th grade of secondary school. My goal was to receive higher education in Germany, but for that, I needed an advanced level of the German language. So I did a cultural exchange called "Au Pair".This is a program, which allows obtaining a visa for one year in Germany to learn the German language and culture, and the participant stays with a German host family. This year I acquired the level necessary to obtain a place to study at the university. It was a rewarding experience as I met great people. My host family was very friendly, kind and considerate, the other young women who did the program were also friendly.

Pre-university academy for foreigners
The next step in achieving my goal was to obtain an international baccalaureate. Since I did not count on it, I had to attend an academy for foreign students and thus be able to receive the baccalaureate, which would allow me to get a study place; this academy is called "Studienkolleg". Very interesting! Since I met many young people with other nationalities, with whom I was able to share pleasant experiences and get to know other cultures more closely, I still have a friendship with some of them despite the distance.

University
At the end of the Studienkolleg, which by rule ends in one year, I automatically obtained a place of study at the university. I studied Economics at the University of Heidelberg, located in the southwest of Germany.
In my student days, I had the opportunity to make trips to different tourist cities in Germany and Europe. I was really glad that I took the chance to travel and live in a country that welcomes young people with open arms who want to study. Further, I could work in my free time, of course only a few hours a week.

continuing professional training
I currently live in Lima, Peru. Since 2015 I have dedicated myself to being a full-time German instructor, and as a FreeLancer; Since this allows me my autonomy in teaching, the classes I teach are personalized, and adapted to the needs and age of the student, although I use already published educational material, I usually make modifications to the content, using various teaching and learning methodologies. foreign languages. In addition, I use ICT to make the classes more visual and dynamic; as well as interactive tools for the student to practice during the learning session. To elaborate and design these lessons, I have used the skills obtained in the courses I took at the Cesar Vallejo University of Lima; Master's courses in Didactics in foreign languages.
Working experience
-I have been giving private classes since 2015 to students from schools such as "Santa Ursula", "Imelda Beata", "Pestalozzi", "Humbolt", "Waldorf" and "Weberbauer". Also to students of the "Ricardo Palma" university; and people interested in doing undergraduate and master's degrees in Germany.
-I have made simple translations, particularly for students in order to apply for a study place.
-I have performed interpreting services for individuals and NGOs.
-Currently, I teach English at IEP Miguel Ángel in Lima

Learning German made it possible for me to have many opportunities in my life. For example, to get a degree and get to know people with different thoughts related to life. It was almost 10 years of beautiful experiences. So I advise everyone who has a similar plan in mind not to think twice and strive to achieve your goal. Take the chance, this experience is worth it!
